STARS (Students Teaching About Responsible Sexuality) is our high school peer education program. STARS educate their friends, peers, family, and community about sexual and reproductive health and rights and connect people to Planned Parenthood services.

As a member of STARS you'll attend monthly meetings with other teens from your community, learn about healthy sexuality, and develop your leadership skills — plus you'll earn a stipend!

Who can be a part of STARS?

Any high school student in Connecticut and Rhode Island can become a STARS peer educator. STARS groups are located in Hartford, New Haven, New London, Stamford, and Providence, as well as a virtual STARS group for teens located anywhere in CT and RI. You do not need to live in the city where the STARS group is located as long as you are able to attend in-person meetings.

What do STARS peer educators do?

STARS attend and actively participate in weekly meetings. At weekly meetings, STARS learn:

  • Sexual health information such as anatomy, pregnancy, birth control methods, healthy relationships, and sexually transmitted infections

  • Skills to lead sexuality education workshops

  • How to become change makers in their communities


Provide sexuality education to their peers and communities. STARS do this by:

  • Having conversations with their friends, family, peers, and others in their community about healthy sexuality

  • Referring people to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England for services

  • Helping teach educational workshops

  • Creating social media content

  • Representing Planned Parenthood at community events
